Wheel Balancing

Wheel balancing ensures that the weight of the wheel and tyre is even around the axle, and is achieved by placing tiny offsetting weights at specific points around the wheel.

If you notice uneven tyre wear or tyre 'wobble' at 40 - 50mph, it is likely that your wheels need re-balancing.

Please note: if you are purchasing new tyres from us, wheel balancing is included within the tyre price so does not need to be purchased separately.

Need a to balance your wheels?

Q. Why do wheels need to be balanced?

Any differences in weight around the wheel travel very fast around the axle, which can cause the following problems:

·        It creates enough momentum to cause serious vibration. And when you multiply by four wheels, the wobble really adds up.

·        Unbalanced tyres put uneven pressure on the treads.

·        Tyres get too hot and wear unevenly.

·        Tyre imbalance can also strain the wheel bearings and suspension system.

Q. When do wheels need to be balanced?

Every time a wheel is first mounted onto the axle with a new tyre, it has to be balanced. However, as soon as newly balanced wheels hit the road, they begin getting out of balance again. Every bump and corner affects balance and so does tyre wear. Over time, your wheels get out of balance again, which is why it is important to have them balanced regularly.

Q. Are my wheels out of balance?

If your wheels are out of balance, you're likely to notice uneven wear on the tyres. Many drivers also notice vibration when travelling over 40 - 50mph, especially if the imbalanced tyres are on the front.

Q. How can I get my wheels balanced?

If you are buying new tyres from us, we will balance the wheels for you as part of the tyre fitting service.
